A Prized Pair of Aston Martin Zagatos is For Sale

In 2019 Zagato celebrated its centenary by collaborating with Aston Martin on a duo of extraordinary DBZ models. Just 19 matched pairs of the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation and DBS GT Zagato were built, with collectors paying £6.1 million for the privilege of owning them.

Five years on there’s the opportunity to pick up the Zagato twins for a little over half price. Finished in matching Caribbean Pearl with dark blue hide interiors the cars are being offered by U.K. Aston Martin specialists Nicholas Mee & Company for £3.75 million.

With the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation Aston Martin revisited its early 1960s Le Mans contender. Only 19 cars were originally built, so that’s the number Aston elected to remanufacture at its Heritage Centre on the site of the old factory in Newport Pagnell. These DB4 GT Zagato Continuations featured hand-sculpted aluminum bodywork, uprated 4.7-litre straight-six motors and took some 4,500 hours to put together.

The DBS GT Zagato, meanwhile, was based on the DBS Superleggera, but with a trademark Zagato double-bubble roof made from carbon fiber. Under the hood sat a 760 bhp, 5.2-litre turbocharged V12 engine, making it the most potent Aston Martin at the time of production.

“In the 40 or more years I have been dealing in Aston Martin cars, I have never seen demand for the Zagato variants dwindle.,” says Nicholas Mee. “They remain irresistible; beautifully crafted, timeless in design and incredibly rare, they’re always near the top of a collector’s wish list. With the DBZ Centenary Collection we have a pair of cars that’s likely to never be repeated by Aston Martin, as it moves away from Continuation models. This is a chance to acquire both an icon and a future icon of one of the automotive industry’s most enduring and effective unions.”

We can’t help but wonder why, if what Mee says is true, this pairing is being offered at such a knock-down price.
