This year’s four auctions at Amelia Island, Florida are anticipated to do big numbers. How big? Hagerty’s market-watching analysts are tipping a new record, with total sales of between of $182 million to $217 million (£156m to £181m).
If you’re a close auction watcher, that might sound rather bold. Amelia ‘peaked’ back in 2016 at $139 million, which was when Gooding & Company sold part of Jerry Seinfeld’s collection. What makes our number-crunchers think this year will best it? In a word, quality.
There are four auctions this year, with Bonhams, Broad Arrow Group, Gooding & Company, and RM Sotheby’s all auctioning vehicles, and the share of $1m+ vehicles is slightly higher than the 2016 record year. It all makes for an exciting ride, that can be as thrilling for onlookers as it can be nail-biting for sellers.
To get a taste of the action, make a brew, pull up a chair and sit back and watch The Amelia Auction, presented by Broad Arrow. It goes live at 3.30pm today (4 March).
