The weekend of 6-8 September will see classic car enthusiasts converge on two quite different events that have one fabulous feature in common. At both the Goodwood Revival and RADwood visitors are encouraged to step back in time and dress in era-appropriate clothing to embrace the cars and culture of days gone by.
At the Goodwood Revival it’s a celebration of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s where fans embody the “Revive and Thrive” ethos to get geared-up in mid-century style. In amongst the crowds you’ll find boiler-suited Land Girls, Sixties’ spivs, and a friendly rivalry between Parka-wearing Mods and leather-clad Rockers.
The RADwood scene, conversely, is all Eighties and Nineties, giving hi-tops, shell suits, and statement T-shirts an outing, alongside the grunge and glamour of Cool Britannia. With the news of the Oasis revival you can be sure there’ll be Gallagher clones galore.
Fashionistas will find plenty of opportunity to add to their collections, with a number of stalls selling vintage clothing at Goodwood and retro specialist Rokit offering its wares at RADwood.
It’s not just the chance for some classic cosplay that will draw the crowds, of course. Check out the highlights below to see what else Goodwood and RADwood have in store.
Goodwood Revival
When: 6-8 September, 2024
Where: Goodwood Motor Circuit, West Sussex
Tickets: Sold out for Friday & Saturday, Sunday prices from £100 each
It’s a three-day nostalgia-fest at Goodwood, with World War II flyovers, an outdoor cinema, Revive & Thrive workshops, and racing aplenty. Friday is mostly practice with just the Sussex Trophy for sports cars taking place as the sun begins to set. On Saturday, two-wheelers take to the track in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, with the Settrington Cup for Austin J40 pedal cars always a crowd-pleaser and the St Mary’s cup seeing a David vs. Goliath battle between Minis and massive Ford Galaxies among the touring cars on the grid. Sunday will see a special tribute to John Surtees and a D-Day Parade, along with part two of several of Saturday’s races, culminating in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy for 1950s endurance racers closing the weekend in the golden hour.
RADwood
When: 7 September, 2024
Where: Chatham Historic Dockyard, Kent
Tickets: £25 per car
Where else are you going to find a Ferrari F40 parked next to a submarine? The unique setting of Chatham Historic Dockyard promises to add an amazing new element to RADwood 2024. There’ll be star cars including a Porsche 959 and Lamborghini Countach, a “RAD to the Future” display and a Show N Shine competition (a few tickets are still available, which also get you access to the exclusive Hagerty Drivers Club VIP area on board the historic sloop HMS Gannet). RADwood is also welcoming the Max Power Reunion, so there’ll be some serious side skirts and big bass audio on show, while you can add to your own music collection at RADwood’s record, CD, and tape stands. Retro-gamers will love the arcade where racing favourites like Sega Rally and Outrun will be free to play. Plus there’ll be prizes for the Show N Shine, best-dressed and one lucky ticket holder will receive a sweet RADwood T-shirt and hat just for turning up!
