In the latest installment of our car club Q&A series profiling the biggest and best classic car clubs in the UK, Hagerty caught up with Nigel Thorley of the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club to find out what fuels their passion for the iconic British luxury car maker.

All Jaguar models hold a unique place in the history and heritage of the British car industry. When they were new, Jaguars offered a combination of superb styling, excellent performance and handling, and value for money, the same attributes the cars retain today.

Where did your love for classic Jaguars start?

My love of Jaguars started with my family, as my father and elder brother always owned Jaguars. I got my first Jaguar at the age of 17!

What advice would you give to someone looking to buy a classic Jaguar?

First of all read as much information on the marque as possible, take advice and very importantly join the largest Jaguar club in the world, the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club. It offers a wealth of information, technical assistance and guidelines to support an impending purchase and on-going ownership.

What is your favourite classic car event of the year?

In the UK, the NEC Classic Car Show in Birmingham; abroad, the Essen Classica Car Show in Germany.

How many members does the Jaguars Enthusiasts Club consist of?

17,000.

What’s the best thing about being a member of the club?

The camaraderie, support and knowledge available to all members.

What does membership to the Jaguars Enthusiasts Club involve?

A 140-page glossy a4 full-colour monthly magazine, access to endless technical advice from experts in every model, special insurance deals, national and regional events throughout the year, a comprehensive website, club track days, racing, technical seminars and much more. The largest range of facilities available to any one-marque car club.
