Bugatti Biopic to Hit the Big Screen

The producer of feature films Ferrari and Lamborghini: The Man Behind The Legend is racing to get the Ettore Bugatti story ready for movie fans.

Deadline reports that Andrea Iervolino plans to start filming in France and Italy in 2025 with an international cast. Like his previous automotive movies the as-yet-unnamed Bugatti biopic will be filmed in English to appeal to the widest audience.

Bugatti’s story certainly has everything a Hollywood hit could hope for. Born in Italy to a family of artists, his father insisted Ettore took a more structured path into the world of engineering. Such was his talent that by the age of just 21 he was head of technology at De Dietrich. Seven years later he founded Automobiles E. Bugatti where engineering and art collided. His Type 35B won the inaugural Monaco Grand Prix in 1929, while his Type 57SC Atlantic is arguably one of the most beautiful designs of all time. Bugatti turned his skills to making aero engines, surgical instruments and even pasta, while his many automotive innovations included alloy wheels.

Alongside this meteoric success was tragedy, too. In 1939 his son Jean was killed while testing a Type 57, and his first wife Barbara died in 1944. Bugatti passed away in 1947, barely a year after tying the knot with second wife Geneviève.

“After the success of our films on Lamborghini and Ferrari, I am thrilled to bring another global automotive icon to the screen,” said Iervolino. “Bugatti will be a film that honors the passion and innovation that have defined one of the most iconic car manufacturers of all time.”

While no date has yet been set for filming, another Iervolino automotive project is about to enter production. MaseratiThe Brothers casts Michele Marrone as Alfieri Il Maserati and Anthony Hopkins as the brother’s financier. Oscar winner Bobby Moresco will be in the director’s chair.
