Everrati certainly loves to stir the pot. The British restomod company has already upset more than a few purists by converting classic Porsche 911s and Land Rovers to electric power, and now it’s taking on a true American icon – the GT40.
Before you shout at your screen, however, rest assured no genuine GT40 is to be harmed during the making of the electric version. Instead of using an original car as a donor vehicle, Everrati has teamed up with Florida’s Superperformance for an electrifying continuation model.
Powered by two Integral Powertrain electric motors this GT40 packs a mighty 811bhp, dwarfing even the current GT’s 660bhp. Everrati claims it will hit 60 mph from rest in less than four seconds, and go on to a top speed of 125mph.
So far, so fast. How about the all-important electric stats? Its 60kWh battery pack provides a range of 125 miles and comes with 700-volt architecture for rapid charging. Find a circuit with a CCS charger and you only need to pause your track day driving for 45 minutes to charge from 20 to 80 per cent – enough time to take on a racing driver’s lunch of grilled chicken and pasta.
With batteries in the sills and behind the driver the weight distribution is 40/60 front to rear, and, incredibly the car is actually lighter than a fully-fuelled original, weighing in at 1320kg. Previous Everratis have featured a synthesised soundtrack but the GT40 goes even further with “virtual” gears. In Race mode the car will deliver a V8-like wail of up to 110 decibels through a pair of active sound generators, even pausing fractionally as it accelerates to simulate upshifts.
While some may dismiss it as a fake car with fake noise, Everrati says it’s nothing of the sort, citing an endorsement from the Shelby Registry. “A car such as the GT40 comes with a heritage and performance that sets high expectations,” explains Everrati’s engineering director Mike Kerr. “Through our strategic partnership with Superperformance, we are confident that we have delivered something extraordinary. The engineering team at Everrati is immensely proud to have received the honour of creating the only GT40 EV in the world to be listed in the official Shelby Registry.
“Our OEM-derived process approach has delivered a car of exceptional performance. At the same time, our advanced driver-focused visceral engagement technology will enable drivers to access a fully immersive aural experience and reignite the romance of the era in which the GT40 dominated the Le Mans 24 Hours in the 1960s, in a new era of zero-emission electric mobility.”
