After creating some of the most desirable normally-aspirated restomod Porsche 911s on the planet, California’s Singer is turning its hands to the whale-tail Turbo. Some 70 customers have already reserved bespoke builds based on the company’s extended-name “Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer – Turbo Study”.
The first example, built for a customer and pictured above, was specified with an emphasis on grand touring, but as every Singer is individually designed the Turbo Study can equally be transformed into a track star if desired.
This Wolf Blue example features carbon fibre bodywork, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a 3.8-litre twin turbocharged version of the Mezger flat-six with more than 450bhp, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The cabin is trimmed in Malibu Sand leather with Black Forest wood accents and is equipped with electric seats and air conditioning.
The 450bhp offered up is merely a starting point, says Singer, while customers can also choose all-wheel-drive for enhanced traction. You’ll be able to see the car in the metal at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June and Monterey’s Car Week in August.
For Singer founder Rob Dickinson, building the company’s first Turbo is a deeply personal experience. “My first ever ride in a Porsche 911 as an 11-year-old in 1976 left me dry-mouthed and speechless – it was a black 930 Turbo with red tartan seats.
“Forty-five years on from that life-changing moment I’m excited to present the results of our study that aims to capture the awesome thrill of Porsche’s first ‘supercar’ while reimagining its performance and refinement and collaborating with owners to take both to new heights. I believe it’s a fitting tribute to a car that changed my life and many others,” he says.
