The first electric Range Rover is promised to have the grunt of a V8 – and you can order it now

The “does what it says on the tin” Range Rover Electric is coming in 2024 and it will be “the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever,” according to JLR product engineering head Thomas Müller. It will also match the current 523 bhp V8 for performance, and be just as accomplished across any terrain, says Land Rover.

“The magic ingredients that underpin the success of Range Rover remain unchanged: timeless, reductionist design, a serene cabin and go-anywhere capability – but now offered with zero tailpipe emissions,” adds Müller.

The Range Rover Electric shares its Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform with the latest mild and plug-in hybrid models, but power will come from an all-electric drivetrain with batteries and motors built at JLR’s new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. An 800-volt system will empower ultra-rapid charging, but there’s no word yet on battery capacity or range.

Instead, Land Rover is currently shaping the story of the Range Rover Electric around its off-road abilities, boasting that it will be able to wade through water up to 850 mm deep and that it has already been put through its paces in some of the world’s most extreme environments, seeing temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees in Arctic Sweden and plus 50 degrees in the Dubai desert.

The Range Rover Electric is promised to come with unprecedented levels of refinement thanks to a new active road noise cancellation technology, and it will also have its own unique sound design (which hopefully can be switched off).

Early adopters wanted to be among the first to experience this radical Rangie can join a waiting list now, and pre-order early in 2024.
