Britain’s Theon Design is showcasing a stunning aluminium interior upgrade for its latest 911 restomod.
We’ve seen the lightweight carbon fibre widebody before, and it still looks splendid, especially in Oak Green metallic with ghost stripes, satin chrome brightwork and 18-inch Fuchs-style alloy wheels. We’ve also experienced Theon’s fettled four-litre flat six that delivers over 100 bhp per litre and its five-stage adaptive TracTive damping, but now the company has tackled the only concerns we had about its reimagined classic.
“Theon has manufactured its own switchgear with a wonderful metallic tactility, and looking around it’s actually the standard Porsche parts which stand out. The vents and door handles just don’t look or feel as good as the rest,” we noted after our test drive in 2022.
Founder Adam Hawley has turned to billet aluminium to elevate the interior of this 1992 964 Carrera 2, replacing the door handles, fuel flap and bonnet releases, plus all knobs and gauge rings with metal. In addition there are Muslin leather seats and trim complete with intricately woven leather sections and green striping to match the paintwork. Today’s technology is catered for with a Bluetooth-enable classic-look audio system with a Focal amplifier and six speakers. The centre console has also been extended to include a wireless phone-charging slot. There’s an upgraded HVAC system and a fetching Nardi deep dish steering wheel as well.
On the mechanical side, there’s a new Hewland six-speed transmission, a Wavetrac Torsen limited-slip differential and a Porsche RS brake package. There’s also electric power steering which is relocated to under the hood for better weight distribution. The latest iteration of Theon’s engine produces 406 bhp at 7,200 rpm and 326 lbft at 5,800 revs. It has a new electronic ignition system, independent throttle bodies by Jenvey and a single mass flywheel. The switchable exhaust is ceramic coated.
“This is a spectacular car, with many of our new systems and design elements, combined with a complete reworking of the 4.0-litre flat six and our advanced damping system,” says Hawley. “As with all our builds, it is a pure expression of the air-cooled 911. But more focused, more powerful, more planted, and – dare I say it – more 911.”
If you’re tempted Theon Design‘s 911s start from around £380,000.
