While it sometimes feels like there’s a new Porsche 911 variant every couple of months, Porsche’s GT department models are a little less frequent, and the track-focused RS versions even less so.
That makes a new 911 GT3 RS special even on paper, but to determine where it falls in the hierarchy, only driving it can tell the full story – and Henry Catchpole is the man behind the wheel for our latest video.
To recap, this is the RS that Porsche considers its most track-focused GT3 to date, based around already the most extreme GT3, in the latest 992 generation.
There is, of course, a screamer of an engine – mounted at the back, natch – with four litres, six cylinders and racing tech all contributing to 517bhp. Drive is through a seven-speed PDK with a shorter final drive.
Then there’s the aero side of things: the bits you can see (that wing is difficult to miss) and the bits you can’t, contribute to 409kg of downforce at 124mph and more than double that – 860kg – at 177mph, doubling that of the old car and getting well into race car territory.
You can see (and hear) how all that comes together in the video, and just how much of a step on it is from the 991 GT3 RS – hardly a shrinking violet (or a Lizard Green, or a Lava Orange…) itself.
